Dear [שם], Women Wage Peace is happy to share a few important updates with you: Thousands gathered for the People's Peace Summit in Jerusalem, together with Women Wage Peace to demand a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We led The Mothers’ Call: Women and Peace session (in Hebrew), in memory of our beloved co-founder Vivian Silver z”l, together with the women’s group of the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum. In a moving gathering of pain, hope, and feminist peace activism, personal testimonies were shared, followed by a musical performance, and the premiere of the new Mothers’ Call video. We also hosted a screening of Wave Goodbye to Dinosaurs, followed by a powerful conversation with Monica McWilliams and Avila Kilmurray, leaders of the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition who were part of the Good Friday Agreement. The conversation took place on Zoom because their flights were cancelled.
We were devastated by the recent murder of Suzan Abd Al-Qadr Bishara, a cherished member of Women Wage Peace, a peace and social activist, and a newly elected city council member in Tira. Suzan was a courageous voice against the rising violence in Arab society and a tireless advocate for shared society and peace. Dozens of WWP activists traveled to Tira to comfort her family and protest against the government’s policy of neglect, which allows violence in Arab communities to spiral out of control.
On Israel’s Memorial Day, our co-director Yael Braudo-Bahat published a deeply personal op-ed in the distinguished Forward, drawing on her own experience of loss and trauma to call for peace. The piece reflects on how war and grief have shaped both her life and Israeli society, urging a different path forward. You can read it here
